About Us

Let’s Build a Tool for Us and Them

My name is Richard T. Lea, and I started my company, Agile Process Integration, LLC (dba CMMI Tools), in 2019 to make it easier for people responsible for CMMI assessments to implement CMMI practices in their organizations using agile processes that were integrated into tools. Being a PMI PMP since 2006 and involved in CMMI assessments since 2011, I had grown frustrated with processes that required practitioners to refer to documentation because the tools they used didn’t contain CMMI characteristics or reflect best practices. This often led to non-compliance, many times for legitimate reasons, which resulted in greater risk and inefficiencies.

I’ve learned a lot about applying software development practices since 2019, which is ironic since my role was to assess others on how well they followed software development practices. Most of that has helped me become better at implementing CMMI practices. CMMI Tools is the result my CMMI-related experiences combined with the practically of using the practices in a large organization, and a small shop such as my own.
